The Harare Pro-Chess League Season is back.

The second edition of the Harare Pro-Chess League got underway this past weekend at the Harare Club Hotel. 12 clubs are vying for the 2024 season honours.

The reigning champions Harare City Chess Club opened the season with a win over a promising Immortals Chess Club side. The Citizens continued to assert dominance winning 4.5 of the 6 matches played in the fixture. Belvedere Freepiece were too strong for Knights Chess Academy to win an easy 4:2.

While new outfit Harare Chess Academy managed to hold Minerva Chess Club to a 3-all draw, Mhondoro Chess were no match for Waterfalls. 2023 Sesaon runner-up Chitown Masters strengthened by the addition of Mugove Muririma defeated Asante Mufakose 4:2. Zimbabwe Prisons Chess Club and Harare Poly could not fulfil their fixtures this weekend.

Several top players including Emerald Mushore, Roy Mwadzura and Cyril Chigodo did not participate in this week’s games as they prepared for the CBZ Zimbabwe National Chess Championship starting Monday 8 April 2024 in Harare.

Knights Chess Academy Zimbabwe lined up for their season opener against Belvedere Freepiece.
