Magnus Carlsen wins the 2023 FIDE World Cup.

Magnus Carlsen halted Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa’s dream World Cup run in Azerbaijan to win the 2023 FIDE World Cup title in the tiebreaks. The Norwegian Grandmaster who is also the world number 1 has finally secured the major trophy that was missing in his cabinet despite falling ill during the tournament.

R Praggnanandhaa

Praggnanandhaa had an amazing run to the final eliminating world number 2 Hikaru Nakamura and World Number 3 Fabiano Caruana to secure a match against World Number 1.

In a World Cup where Zimbabwe’s IM Rodwell Makoto struggled, Fabiano Caruana clinched third place to secure a ticket to the FIDE Candidates tournament next year, after defeating Nijat Abasov in the tiebreaks.

Who is Magnus Carlsen

Sven Magnus Øen Carlsen is a Norwegian chess grandmaster who is a former five-time World Chess Champion. He is also the current four-time World Rapid Chess Champion and current six-time World Blitz Chess Champion. Magnus has hinted that he won’t be participating in the FIDE Candidates tournament after refusing to defend his world title earlier this year.
