ZPC Hwange shines at 2026 Corporate Individual Chess Championship

The Zimbabwe Power Company (ZPC Hwange) chess team was named the best-performing team at the 2026 Corporate Individual Chess Championship (CICC 2026), held at the Monomotapa Hotel in Harare on Saturday, 6 June 2026. ZPC managed to hold off 16 other organisations that were represented at this year’s event,

The best team award was determined by the total sum of each team’s best 5 players, since this was an individual event. ZPC Hwange were inspired by Precious Gift Phiri and Nyasha Bangwayo, who each collected 5 points from 7 games. Other notable stellar performance contributors came from Oliver Muzuva and Wayne Gazi, with 4.5 points each. Vhuso Mthisi’s 4 points meant that ZPC secured the team award with a total of 23 points.
