ZB Financial Holdings Dominates the 2026 Vumba Chess Classic!

ZB Financial Holdings made history at the 2026 Vumba Chess Classic held at Forest Hills Resort in Vumba on Saturday, 31 October 2026, by being named the Team of the Tournament after an incredible performance, amassing a staggering 22 points over 7 thrilling Swiss rounds.

The Team of the Tournament is determined by combining the individual scores of the top five players from each competing organisation.

In a groundbreaking achievement, they swept the crown in both the open and ladies’ sections! Inspired by Prince Chivero, who claimed the title of Overall Champion, and the unassuming yet brilliant Edith Nqobile Muyambiri, who reigned supreme in the ladies’ section ZB Financial Holdings stood out in a way that left everyone in awe. Their dominant performance propelled them ahead of their closest rival, City of Harare, which finished with 18 points. CABS who were the team of the Tournament in Kariba were on third position.

2026 is ZB Financial Holdings’ Year!

The year 2026 has been nothing short of spectacular for ZB Financial Holdings, securing victories in two out of four major competitions held this year. Lewis Wadyandiani dazzled chess fans by clinching the championship at the Kariba Invitational Chess Championship in August, and now, with Prince Chivero’s triumph at the Vumba Chess Classic in October and Edith Muyambiri’s top accolade in the ladies’ division, ZB has truly been on fire!

This season has solidified ZB Financial Holdings’ position as a powerhouse in the chess world, and their thrilling journey was by no means a fluke. It was a result of consistency and hard work. ZB competed fiecerly in all of the Harare Chess Society’s 4 Major tournaments from Bulawayo where Chiveo 1st runner up, to Harare, then Kariba and Vumba. Zb missed the podium in only one of the 4 events!
