
HPCL 2025 season starts on a high note.
The Harare Pro-Chess League season (HPCL 2025) started on a high note. Fourteen (14) of the league’s sixteen (16) teams showed up for their fixtures with beefed-up teams from successful off-season transfers.
Season debutants 4393 Chess Academy led by Edmore Matimba held Zimworx Knights to a 3-all draw. Zimworx’s new signings Collen Chikwature and Terrence Muleya proved too strong for Edmore and Brian Dzetera on Board 1 and 2 respectively.
Last season’s runners-up Waterfalls felt the heat from Belvedere Freepiece after Micheal Marime and Taku Masvinge defeated their Board 5 and 6 respectively. Keith Mhizha settled the fixture by outplaying Tapiwa Gora on Board 1.
University of Zimbabwe put the Immortals to the test. The fixture highlight was Simbarashe Chikoya’s win over Spencer Masango on Board 1. The Immortals however proved too strong for the newcomers claiming the match points with a 3.5 total score out of 6.
Mhondoro chess clad in their new gold and black tracksuits could not allow CBZ to ruin their shine. The Lions dismissed the bankers with a 3.5 score out of 6. New signings Lawrence Tavagwisa and Archford Matiringe were the only winners from CBZ’s side.

Chitown Masters and Harare City had it easy. Both walked away with 6 nil scores against Knights Academy and Harare Chess Academy respectively. Axis Solutions was gifted a 6-nil walkover against the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe.
What is HPCL 2025?
HPCL 2025 refers to the the 2025 season of Zimbabwe’s only chess league – the Harare Professional Chess League organised annually by the Harare Chess Society.
