Harare City Chess Club wins the 2023 Harare Pro-Chess League

Harare City Chess Club emerged as Champions of the 2023 Harare Professiosional Chess League, by winning 20 of their 22 matches of the season. The Citizens who were also winners of the Harare Chess League in 2019 and 2022 defended their title by holding the fort against 11 formidable teams in the 2023 League. Harare City Chess Club team

Harare City Chess Club had a strong lineup comprising Emarald Mushore (Captain), Elisha Chimbamu (Playing Coach), Farai Hamandishe (Vice-Captain), Vitalis Mapuranga, Tinashe Chinhanga, Gibson Malije, Gilbert Shonhiwa, Kudzanai Charinda, Refiloe Mudodo, Brian Takawira, and Petros Tambudze.

2023 Harare Pro-Chess League Champions: Harare City Chess Club

The Citizens had exceptional individual performances such as that of Tapiwa Konga who secured an impressive 10.5 points out of 11 games played. Tinashe Chinhanga exhibited great determination by participating in the highest number of matches, ultimately winning 12 out of 16 games.

Chitown Masters Chess Club

Chitown Masters Chess Club, who were this year’s Silver Medalist, also had amazing individual performances of the season. Emmanuel Rabvu won all 8 games he played. Tanaka Katsande exhibited remarkable dedication by participating in all matches and accumulating 20 points out of 22 games.

Waterfalls Chess Club

Waterfalls Chess Club finished in third place, and their standout performer was Keith Mhizha, who emerged victorious in all seven games he played. The team’s captain, Adolf Muungani, played the most games, participating in 21 matches and accumulating 15 points.

2023 Harare Pro-Chess League Bronze Medalists: Waterfalls Chess Club

All winning teams and outstanding individuals will be crowned at a prestigious Harare Chess Awards Dinner Gala to be held in the capital at the end of November 2023. To partner with or sponsor this event get in touch with the organisers by emailing partnerships@hararechess.org

The 2023 Harare Pro-Chess League (HPCL) was organised and successfully hosted by The Harare Chess Society with great support and assistance from the Zimbabwe Chess Federation. The Harare Chess Society would like to thank all stakeholders who made this year’s event possible with special mention going to the Harare Club Hotel, Zimbabwe Chess Consultancy Pvt Ltd and Classic 263 Radio.
