HPCL 2025:Chitown Masters V Immortals Chess Club Head to Head analysis

It promises to be a thrilling weekend in the Harare Professional Chess League as the reigning champions take on this season’s strongest team Immortals Chess Club. We look at the history of this tie and what could be the possible outcome below:

Squad Changes

Chitown added FM Zhemba Jemusse to boost their title-defending campaign. Immortals have made four new signings: Spencer Masango on Board 1, Elisha Thabo on Board 2, Emmanuel Rabvu on Board 3 and Elvis Chaoma on Board 6. Only Chigodo and Janyure remain from their previous season’s team.

Team Strengths and Weaknesses

Chitown Masters have a top-six average Board rating of 2040 compared to the Immortals’ average rating of 1982. While Chitown is known for discipline, Immortals have repeatedly lost this fixture due to players not showing up for games.

Possible Outcome

The Reigning Champions Chitown Masters may win the match if Immortals do not improve their player attendance. Another factor is Zhemba’s availability for the tie. Even though Chitown has proven capable without him, his presence could steady the sails, the same way Masango will reassure and inspire the Immortals.
